DERO · HF3 EXPLOIT · THE COMPLETE TRACKED FLOW · 2026-09-01
Four ladders, 46 doublings, 53 published transactions, and one burn. It begins with 9.9 DERO of real money and ends with almost 24 million that never existed. This is the whole money story as far as the chain and the published data will carry it, including the parts that stop short. The accounting below balances exactly, and the note beside it explains why that is less impressive than it looks. What actually carries the weight is underneath: 46 doubled amounts, each one recovered from its own transaction and checked against the chain.
This is the evidence half of a pair. For what the exploit was, how it worked and what it means, read The DERO Double-Spend, Explained first; this document is the transaction record behind it.
Start from the 9.9 DERO that came in from outside, add the balance each later ladder inherited from the one before it, add what the exploit made from nothing, subtract everything left behind along the way, and you should land on what the four end wallets actually held. You do, exactly.
| Step | What it is | DERO |
|---|---|---|
| Outside money | ladder 4’s seed, the only capital that came from anywhere else | 9.9 |
| Recycled between ladders | each later ladder’s starting balance, paid out of the one before it | + 110,899.7 |
| Created | made from nothing by the doublings, summed across all 46 rungs | + 23,886,517.3 |
| Left behind along the way | change that stayed in a wallet rather than moving to the next rung, across all 42 links; how it divides between change left in wallets and value driven below zero is not verified | − 5,556.1 |
| Should be in the end wallets | the four lines above | 23,991,870.8 |
| Actually in the end wallets | defined as twice each ladder’s top rung | 23,991,870.8 |
| Difference | zero, and necessarily so; see the note below | 0.0 |
The final two rows agree to the atomic unit, and they were always going to. The end-wallet total is defined as twice each ladder’s top rung, so seeds plus created minus leakage can only land on it. That confirms the arithmetic is consistent. It is not independent evidence that the amounts are right. The evidence for those sits one level down: each of the 46 doubled amounts was recovered from its own transaction and tested against the chain, with a control at one atomic unit either side.
18,886,517.3 is what came from nothing less the burn, and it is the right figure only if the burn came from these wallets, which nothing on chain shows. 18,991,870.8 is the total sitting in those wallets after the burn. The 105,353.5 between them is almost entirely the later ladders’ starting balances, which were paid out of the previous ladder’s proceeds and are therefore already counted once inside the created figure. Only 9.9 DERO of it ever came from outside. For any argument about what the exploit added to the supply, the first number answers it; the second counts the same coins twice.
The 20 apparent breaks are bridged by 36 ordinary transfers, found by walking the blocks between the rungs, with every amount recovered from the transactions themselves. The 5,556.1 total is measured. Its breakdown is not: 4,307.6 is change still sitting in wallets, 1,248.4 sat in wallets that a doubled debit drove below zero, and fees account for 0.09922, being 121 atomic units on each of the 82 transfers. Those three come to 0.00484 more than the measured total, which is exactly four fees, and that gap is not resolved here. Which individual links kept change and which drove a payer below zero needs per-wallet balance analysis that nobody has run. Nothing was destroyed in the overdrawn case: DERO adds a balance change unconditionally, with no underflow check and no burn, so an overdrawn account carries a negative balance more like a debt than a loss. It is counted here as money that left the ladders and never landed anywhere useful. None of it reached the exchange deposit described below, which was mined at block 7,471,517, roughly 11,400 blocks before ladder 3’s first rung at 7,482,913. Money cannot move backwards in time.
The five million burn is real, the chain binds the burned amount to coins that actually left a funded account and would have rejected the transaction otherwise. What is not proven is that the coins burned came from these ladders. That transaction uses a ring of 16 and its sender is hidden, so nobody can tie it to these wallets from the chain alone. It is strongly suggestive, because five million is larger than all the coins ever mined on DERO put together, outside the premine, but it remains an inference and is treated as one here.

They are not four separate operations. They are one chain: ladder 4 ran first from 9.9 DERO, and each later ladder was seeded out of the one before it: 100,000 sent into ladder 3, which then started from 99,900, then 1,000 sent into ladder 2, which started from 999.9, then 10,000 sent into ladder 1, which started from 9,999.8. Every seed matches the previous ladder’s payout less fees. Ladder 1 made the most; ladder 4 ran the longest, and its end wallet later sent at least 408,774.564 DERO onward to a single address that behaves like an exchange or similar service. Ladder 3 is the leaky one, losing value at every step.
The amount is not a guess, and the test is one anyone can run. In these older transactions the amount
and its blinding factor sit together in a single public commitment, so proposing an amount fixes the
key the attached payload was encrypted under. That makes a candidate testable without any wallet key:
subtract amount × G from the on-chain commitment to recover the blinder, take
Keccak256 of its compressed form, derive the payload key from that and the ring member’s
public key, and decrypt. The right amount yields a canonical, well-formed payload. Wrong ones yield
noise. In transaction dd095ee722bf4126c50f281261b72933e1495ba9c2e47f35069e8e00d22dce55
at block 7,471,517, 408,774.564 decrypts cleanly. Twenty thousand nearby wrong values do not, and
neither does the same figure one atomic unit higher or lower. Every amount in the transaction table below was
recovered the same way. What it decrypts to is a routing tag, the sort of per-customer deposit
identifier a service issues so an incoming payment lands in the right account. That, together with a
receiving address registered years before any wallet in this operation and the same identifier repeated
across both transfers, is the most that can honestly be said. “Exchange or similar service”
describes a shape. It is not an identification. Nothing on chain
attaches a brand name to it, so nothing here names one, and the tag itself is not published because
it identifies an account.
All 53 of them, exactly as published, sortable and searchable. Transaction IDs and addresses are truncated for width, but the full value is really on the page: select a cell and copy it, or hover to expand. The filter matches full IDs, addresses and raw amounts. Ladder numbering follows the maintainer’s published list rather than the order the ladders ran, so ladder 4 is the earliest. Every height is the block where the transaction first appeared; the second application landed 1 to 6 blocks later and is not shown, so these heights match the maintainer’s list directly. The seven rows marked dust are the odd ones out: transfers totalling 1.84738 DERO, all between one fixed pair of addresses, which the maintainer counted as contributing nothing. They are here because they were applied twice, which is the rule for every row in this table. That rule is narrower than the maintainer’s published list: eight further transactions sit on it under no duplicates, but false parity, three of them between this same pair of addresses, and none of the eight appears here. gap means the wallet that received the previous rung is not the wallet that sent this one, so an ordinary transfer moved the coins in between and is not in this list. leak marks the six rungs after which more than 2 DERO stayed behind; smaller amounts stay behind at every other link too, and fees are only 0.00121 DERO per transfer.

| Open question | Why it is open |
|---|---|
| What is in the 14 undecoded transactions | they use a ring of 16 and their amounts have not been recovered; they share one receiving address |
| Whether the burn came from these wallets | the burn transaction hides its sender behind a ring of 16 |
| The 36 bridge transfers, individually | they were never double-applied, so they are absent from the remediation list the transaction table above is built from; they were located by block walk and are not listed here one by one |
| How much in total reached that service | one deposit is measured at 408,774.564; four others between the same pair of wallets return no amount under either predicate across the range searched, and whether that is because their amounts fall off the search lattice or for some other reason is not established, so the total is a floor rather than a number, and none of it is folded into the figures above |
| What the outstanding coins do next | a policy question for DERO to answer; the chain cannot settle it |
